Researchers of birdsong in urban environments have found that anthropogenic ambient noise has increased in urban areas over time and that there is a coinciding cultural evolution of dialects for cultural transmission. Dialects change: they grow and evolve, sometimes they may disappear. As the environment changes, so do its inhabitants. They adapt in order to reach one another with their sound.
There is a parallel in music, both as expression evolves over time and musicians relate in unique ways based on their backgrounds and origins. Improvised music provides a setting where this may be explored to the fullest. This diverse ensemble is made up of musicians with unique origins and backgrounds and a few of them were meeting for the first time.

Anders Griffen is a musician and composer playing drums and trumpet, bending genres with original songwriters, instrumentalists, choreographers and other creative artists. After developing a background in jazz, not in school but at jam sessions around the city, he was one of the main drummers on the Antifolk scene ca. 1998-2003 while continuing the search for inspiring and unique expressions.
On 40+ records, and concerts across the States and abroad -- including Lollapalooza, Primavera Sound, and The End of the Road festivals, a Peel Session on BBC Radio 1, and on Jazz with OT with legendary radio presenter Oscar Treadwell -- Anders has performed with songwriters and bands like Jeffrey Lewis, Diane Cluck, Regina Spektor, Kimya Dawson, The Bundles, Paleface, The Walkmen, Mark Mulcahy, Winterpills, Seth Faergolzia, Dufus, and the legendary Ish Marquez ...
As well as jazz musicians Frank Lowe, Bernard Santacruz, Christopher Parker, Chad Fowler, William Parker, Henry P. Warner, Roy Campbell Jr., Joe Shepley, and just a diverse range of artists, musicians and dancers.

One of my favorite collaborations. You really kind of had to be there, but it's nice we have at least something to show for it.
